Botanical Management of Cabbage Aphid in Cauliflower
Evaluated the effectiveness of citronella and Lindera botanical extracts for managing cabbage aphid (Brevicoryne brassicae) in cauliflower under field conditions in Panchkhal.
Methodology
Conducted field experimentation with different concentrations/formulations of citronella and Lindera extracts. The experiment was conducted using a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with six treatments and a control across 21 plots. Aphid populations were monitored following successive sprays, and the percentage reduction over control (PROC%) was used to evaluate treatment effectiveness. Cauliflower yield was also assessed to compare treatment performance.
Outcomes & Impact
Citronella-based treatments demonstrated sustained effectiveness in suppressing cabbage aphids and produced higher cauliflower yields than the Lindera treatments and untreated control. Citronella 69-160, standard Citronella, and Citronella 200 showed particularly consistent aphid control, highlighting the potential of botanical pesticides as an environmentally friendly alternative for sustainable pest management in cauliflower.
